Windows Phone Video - Smartphone Round Robin 16
by Dieter Bohn Wed, 20 Jan 2010 2:54 pm EST
It's the penultimate week of the Smartphone Round Robin and my task this week is to try to understand where Windows Mobile / Windows Phone is at these days. I'm seeking advice from Windows Mobile users over at WMExperts, so if you're in that camp, go on and give me a shout-out there.
If you're looking to get the final word in on the comparative looks at webOS, Rene Ritchie of The iPhone Blog has it this week and he's looking for assistance himself.
After the break, Phil Nickinson of WMExperts walks me though the latest and greatest Windows Phones

Im no friend of yours. Cant watch. Hey!!!
fixed. Sorry everybody!
We'd all still like to be your friends anyway, Dieter.
Dieter, what's up with the lag in flicking cards off the screen on your Pre? Is that caused by a patch?
I noticed that too, thought maybe was my computer or a glitch in video but watched it again and sure enough is there. Hmmmm?
Touchflo: tried it. it's not that intuitive to me. i don't want to flick indivual pictures to get through my music, contacts, pictures or email. it's pretty but not functional.
Navigation: i struggle. going forward and back in screens was not logical.
responsiveness: the screens where not nearly as responsive as an iphone or even a pre. You can rebut till the cows come home. The O.S. did not respond to my touch.
deep down. They are just skins.
Dieter, you really should consider doctoring your Pre!
There was consistent lag in closing all cards, 'gDialPro' still showed top left quite a while after closing the app, indicates poor swapping/memory leaks?
Same was with my Pre, however a quick trip to the doctor alleviate all that and now its pretty fast. Remember its an Operating system and like all need formatting/installing from time to time, consider it =)
It's really fascinating to see the progression made just by OM shells on WinMo these days. I can't imagine the type of variation in UI on a pc at this stage in the game (though thats mainly because everyone is racing to have the exact same one) aside from Linux distros and thats a whole different game.
