World Cup on your Sprint Pre 71

by Dieter Bohn Fri, 11 Jun 2010 12:26 pm EDT

Several readers have given us a gentle reminder that the FIFA World Cup is finally upon us and that those of us with Sprint devices have access to Sprint TV, which has free, non-subscription access to ESPN3, which is streaming (nearly) the whole thing live.

Not on Sprint? http://espn.mobi/mobiletv sadly doesn't offer any options for you, so let us know how you plan on getting your football fix while on the go.

Thanks to everybody who sent this in!

Good Stuff...I have a Sprint Pre...

one question, if I were to watch the entire world cup on my Pre and never turn it off will I end up getting overage charges from Sprint for over usage?

Funny...I don't know...give it a try and let me know the outcome.

Sprint has no limit on data at all. Its unlimited just as they say and just as the bill says. Not like ATT and O2 and others with a 1GB or 2GB cap.

I don't understand how Sprint is not advertising the crap out of this!! World Cup is a gigantic event, and it would be a great attraction for new subscribers. I just watched the 1st game on my Pre, Live and free from work !

You are very very right. Sprint should have commercials about this. Sprint should have commercials showing off Sprint TV anyway. Not a lot of people know about it.

You guys are totally right. I personally know about this stuff but I look into these kind of things. Sprint has the best plans, best packages, best prices, great phones, great service, but crappy marketing. If Sprint could show off their network and phones like Verizon shows off theirs then Sprint would be doing a lot better. Especially in the smartphone department.

best everything but crappy marketing? Who does that sound like?

Sprint's tragic under-marketing of the Pre continues. I've been wondering how I was going to follow the matches @ work, since I could never figure out AT&T/ESPN's live streaming thing. Then, if I eventually figured it out, I was worried that I'd have work-related windows open blocking the action.

And all along I had the perfect alternative on my phone. Ugh.

Thanks for the heads-up, Sprint. Not.

But Pre Central: Thanks for the heads-up, for real.

i just got a text from sprint saying 56 games live on the phone cool. also for nascar fans the next 5 races are also live on your phone. sprint tv seems to work better on my evo over my pre. i need web os on the evo then it would be the greatest phone ever.

I can't find it. WTF

Its unwatchable on the PRE, I tried watching it at work, but as always its choppy....sprint tv sucks....

mine has been on for 20 minutes no issues

I watched the whole game. On 3G. Not choppy, no problems at all.

I've been searching for an AT&T solution...can't find one.

Too bad the Pre doesn't support flash....yet.

http://m.tvcatchup.com/ will work for UK Pre owners now! games on BBC and ITV.

Could you tell me please if you've installed anything to open a stream? It gives me an error saying that the file format isn't supported. Any clue?

cheers

I got sprint and I got free tv and I can see all the favorites games MEXICO MEXICO MEXICO Y ARRIBA LA RAZA CABRONES LOL

Ahija!! Eso es todo!

can't watch any tv on my pre and I can't update any apps and I don't have the nerve to doc it then I don't have a pc so wtf...

look under all channels. It's on the ESPN channel.
I watching the whole thing with only a few choppy spots, which I think is expected on cell tv. My 3G here is pretty decent. Thousand oaks,ca

I just watched the 1st game. It was choppy at first but got better. Actually, it better than ESPN3.com for me, my job has a crappy internet connection.

For those of you that don't have Sprint but do have a home ISP that is allowed to access ESPN3 (most US providers are) you can use a solution like Orb. I have Orb on my home media server and it can stream video beautifully to my Pre.

Of course for this to work you have to have a computer at home that is always on and a decent speed internet connection but I love it for keeping access to terrabytes of video without having to fill up my Pre's limited storage space.

Hope this helps! Enjoy the World Cup :-)

Any solutions for us Canadians??

I do have access to a VPN with endpoints in the UK and USA, is there any way i could use this with my phone to watch?

Watched the opening game. Choppy at times but very watchable for the most part. Thank Q Sprint!

I'm looking under all channels and only see ESPN News. What am I missing? I'd love to get this to work.

ESPN news is on the ESPN channel til 2PM EST and then the next soccer game comes on.

Ok, I was listening to it this morning on ESPNradio using the RadioTime app, but just before Mexico scored the tying goal, "BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE" and I get an error message saying that RadioTime is unable to play the stream. It's still not working... I could watch on my computer at work on ESPN3, but unfortunately the connection here sucks. Just glad it is the weekend soon and I can watch it on T.V. Hopefully ESPN or RadioTime can fix this by Monday its my only chance to get "REAL" up to the minute results. Has anyone else ran into this problem or got a fix? HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched at work with no problems. FYI France v Uruguay at 2! Tune in.

I would rather be in hell with my neck broke than watch a boring soccer game. I already rest my case, the first game ends in a rousing 1-1 Tie.

Take note!

Super Bowls, World Series, Stanley Cups, NBA Finals and Daytona 500's never end in ties.

After the first round (round-robin play) of the World Cup, there are no ties either (including the championship game).

Nice try at being snarky... but in the end it just sounds ignorant.

Buh-bye now.

i had a 300 word essay for this till my pre decided to refresh the page, even with the no auto refresh patch

This post is not about whether you like soccer or not. It's for those who are smart enough to understand it and like it regardless of the score. So I say, go troll elsewhere.

Please, then go hang out in hell. There is no purpose to you entering the thread.

Thank you so much. I actually over looked the schedule since I do not use sprint YV, I am not familiar with the features. This helped a great deal. Here is to England, Nigeria, or USA(lol) taking the world cup home.

Hint: if at first you don't see what you're looking for, make sure you are looking at the correct time listing at the top.

For instance, I was looking for the World Cup game. It was not listed under the 1:30 PM EDT offerings. Clicking ahead to 2:00 PM, it was listed front and center.

Hope this helps...

I love Sprint :)

World cup live on the pre. Mind = Blown!
By the way, for those looking for the right channel, it is ESPNNews in the All Channels list.

awesome!!! and i agree. This needs to be advertized. but oh well, at least maybe it won't crash right?

Fluid Uruguay vs France broadcast for me right now here in Louisville, KY via EVDO.

.

Thanks pre-central

Is there a way to display the screen of the pre on the computer? Like http://www.junefabrics.com/pdareach/index.php used to do for palmos? This would be a great thing to display on the computer/projector..... I have been watching the stream on my pre & it has been more stable than anything I have found on the net so far.

streaming over 3G perfectly here near Providence, RI.

same

Works great! The graphic above has the phone rotated wrong. My button is always on the right with Sprint TV. Can I get a patch for that?

The image precentral posted for this article is just a mock-up.

You are right, when rotating the phone SprintTV does not change the orientation of the display. So the button is always on the right when viewing the image right-side-up.

I am not aware of a patch that enables rotation on SprintTV, but I am curious why that would matter?

I think he's being pedantic...

m.tvcatchup.com works well on uk pre!!!

I'm struggling using tvcatchup. it's always an ugly picture and is really jumpy. are you using it over wifi or 3G?

oh wow your right sprint tv does have it!!! it was choppy at first but it got better after awhile.

streaming perfectly in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I still don't get the whole soccer thing. I need a nap. Maybe i'll turn it on

I've been watching all day and the quality has been great, in philadelpha

The quality is not nearly as good as it is shown to be in this picture. In realitly its a bit grainy/blurry but doesn't seem to stop & load at all from the moment I opened it =)

I now have it all sorted. Running at hq on tvcatchup on both 3G and wifi. Perfect picture as soon as it loaded. 'Sall good

works like a charm...the pre display is too small

Those complaining about Sprint not advertising Sprint TV for World Cup I have a comment. You have to realize Sprint is US company. US does not care about "football". if it's not the "World" Series, NBA, or NFL superbowl then no one cares.

It's slowly catching on in the USA, according to talksport (A very big talk show station in the UK) the USA has more fans attending the World Cup in South Africa than the English do!

They were discussing it today, so even though you guys call it Soccer when the rest of the world call it football there is an increasing number of US fans and this will only continue to grow as you get better at the game, that may take another 20 years or if you do well in the World Cup just a few but eventually big companies will care about it as the fans grow inside the US :)

BOOOOOOO to canada for having nothing cool for pre. if i only had flash....free tv, free ufc pay per views, free movies. too bad...we will just have to suffer for now. good thing everything else here is awesome.

I'm on Bell so it kinda sucks for me but I have check the non Sprint users link and I get this message ''You seem to have Wi-Fi enabled on your device. Please disable Wi-Fi then refresh this page so that we can detect if you have an ESPN MobileTV capable device. Thanks.''

I don't have wifi on...

what the hell? Does SPB TV offer any channel?

I bet if verizon that has many hispanic customers would have espn they would be advertising it big... Sometimes well mostly advertising pricks just don't live in the world normal people live in

Using m.tvcatchup.com
Works perfectly on my Palm Pre :)

damn it... it only work for uk only.. im in Canada.

There's a simple reason we are unable to watch the World Cup streamed live to our Pre's. ESPN3.com and m.espn3.com use Flash 10 for streaming video. Going to check out m.tvcatchup.com after I set up my acct from my PC.

Duh, TVcatchup.com is for UK residents only. So much for that idea.

Cool! I was curious if the "TV, internet, and mobile devices" that they kept crowing about during commercial breaks of the games today included the Pre... So I fired up Sprint TV and lo and behold-- within 10 seconds an alert came up telling me that World Cup content was now available on Sprint TV! It's like my Pre is psychic....

This is awesome, been streaming it on my Pre when I am not a my computer and ESPN3 when I am. :)

Anyone who watches soccer will appreciate this function. For a soccer nut, this is awesome!
My in-laws were in town this weekend and I had nowhere to watch the game at 4am, so I went in the bathroom with my headphones and watched it on my Sprint Pre. I love WebOS and Sprint rocks. I don't care what anyone else thinks.
