WWYD Palm Pre - Final Winners 11

by Dieter Bohn Sat, 13 Jun 2009 10:39 am EDT

We're a week late on these last two - chalk it up to technical difficulties of an order of magnitude larger than what we expected.  First up, meet Lucas, who has turned his VW Golf into a gigantic Palm Pre -- the better to buzz past the Michigan Ave Apple Store in Chicago and tell the customers there what's what.

Next up, Tim.  Tim walked the 20 miles of the Boston Walk for Hunger -- in drag -- spending the entire time cavorting around and telling fellow walkers and spectators just how great the Pre is.  Tim raised money for charity in the name of the Pre and also donated his old Treo 800w to the walker who raised the most money.  Here's where we get to the technical difficulties part.  See, instead of Tim's video, what we have is a photo of where Tim's video lies - specifically, on a scratched platter on this hard drive:

All we can tell you is that you should imagine a giant, burly Irishman, beard and head shaved, dancing on blistered feet, telling people to not only give more to charity but also to check out the Pre, all ending with a ceremonial bequeathing of the Treo 800w.

So sorry guys and sorry Tim, we couldn't save the video, but thanks to you for submitting an idea that gave back.

Actually, thanks to ALL our WWYD for a Palm Pre contest entrants and winners!  We'll pick our list of our Forum Member gift card winners next week (get thanked and thank, everybody!).  In the meantime, your's truly is hitting the beach for a few days for an emergency vacation.  I leave the site in the capable hands of our writers and forum moderators -- be good to them, folks.

In case you missed them, here are our first three winners:

Palm should buy that car from the guy.
Incredible.
Expensive I bet too.
Tip of the cap.

I thought the car looked cool but its seems like he spent more money putting that car together as opposed to just buying the Pre straight up. Pre is sold out, but not like Nintendo Wii sold out. I was on a waiting list for a day and got called that next morning.

But I did enjoy him heckling the Apple people though, funny stuff, lol!

Did I mention I LOVE my Pre?!

haha that last part was funny where he was yelling in front of the apple store.

Looks amazing. Nice job! Also, the drive-by Apple Store was excellent.

Pre my Ride! Hehe, tdi too. nice

I saw the Pre car in front of that Apple store a couple weeks ago! Yeah, I got way too excited about it...

Diesel & Palm- Hopefully both have rich futures in the US.

That was pretty dorky, yet amusing. Is it legal to drive with your entire rear window covered that way?

In my state I know it's not, so they often get around it by going with a logo only in the back window.

Bravo Lucas, really nice job. The video shooting and editing was first rate too. How did you take those overhead shots of the car on the road? Did a pro shoot the video?

But what I really want to know is...were those decals easier or harder to apply than an InvisibleShield screen protector?

Lucas here. Thanks!

I actually do video for a living, so I was able to borrow gear, and get help from a co-worker to get the video done well.

To get the overhead shots, we used a homemade jib and put it in the back of a pickup truck. This let us get all of those moving close-ups of the car. Here is a pic of the sweet setup: http://twitpic.com/5sagl

I haven't decided on the InvisibleShield or GhostArmor, but I'll let you know when I do!
