by Dieter Bohn Fri, 23 Jul 2010 2:02 pm EDT
Today is the last day to get any and all apps in the App Catalog for half off while still sending developers their full share.
We told you what we've purchased, liked, and loved. Here's what you all have told us that you recommend. Not a comprehensive list, but if more than one PreCentral reader commented with it on our last Brain Trust post, it's here:
- Accuweather
- Asphalt 5
- Blades of Fury
- Dropboxify
- Dungeon Hunter
- FlightPredictor
- Jump O'Clock
- Mini Golf / Wacky Worlds
- My Q for Netflix
- Pack 'n Track

What else are you all buying while the buying is good?

hmmm what else to buy?
Why doesn't anyone ever give attention to Mancala?
It's a good game. :(
Here's the apps that I paid for *STRICTLY* BECAUSE OF THE 50% SALE...
"Productive" Apps
----
- Powernap
- Drag Stats
- Be A Man 2.0
GAMES
----
- Modern Combat: Sandstorm
- Tom Clancy's HAWX
- Castle of Magic
- NFL 2010
- Hero of Sparta
- Dungeon Hunter
- Blades of Fury
- Jump O'Clock
Think they were all worth some money, besides Jump O'Clock. I think I'd rather have my fiddy cent back. Not a bad game, but it's not really quite my thing. Gets pretty boring pretty fast. The others could keep me entertained for a LOOOONG time.
Thanks.
Got drag and Be a man!
only USA :(
I bought Newsroom and love it.
+1 Best app for reading news sites offline when you have no connection (in subway, on an airplane).
Here's what I purchase as result of the 50% off Sale:
Deer Hunter, Family Guy, Glyder 2, Mini Golf Wacky Worlds, Super KO Boxing 2, Jump O'Clock, Dragon Games, Checkers, Cloud Hopper, Virus Defense, Paratrooper, Kopfnuss, Cronk, Defensive Warfare, Battleship, Dr. Podder, PodSnatcher, Bubble Puzzle, Blades of Fury, Dungeon Hunter, and FlightView.
NOTE: After work I'm going to check my list twice...just to make sure I did not miss anything.
Wallpaper Switcharoo! :)
If you are running SqueezeCenter and/or have one or more Logitech Squeeze Player devices, then SqueezeControl is fantastic. My wife and I each bought a copy.
I totally agree if you have a Squeeze centre then you have to have this app, it works better than the actual remote!.
Combining notes and photos with the ability to categorize and automatically sync with GoogleDocs in the cloud makes Notes by Inglorious Apps one of my favorite apps.
Both the wife and I bought this earlier in the contest, great app!
Anyone else wonder if this is why we still haven't got the update yet.
I wonder if the half off sale is the reason - it means Palm would have to pay a ton more money for all the pixi owners getting in on 3d games and what not.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the update hit next week sometime or even tomorrow. of course this is all conspiracy theory speculation
I agree. It also rewards all of the early adopter developers before the catalog gets flooded with more competition.
The sale got extended twice. I believe this was due to 1.4.5 getting delayed twice.
Isn't speculating fun?
The sale was extended once.. From the 9th to the 23rd..
Oh yes, you are correct. I think I was accidentally counting the Hot Apps contest extension from May 31 to June 30.
I picked up ancient frog, and love it. Newsroom, and plumbers nightmare are great pickups also.
newsroom, digloo, done!, super ko boxing 2
If they release 1.4.5 tomorrow we'll all know why it was really delayed (so that the PDK apps aren't 50% off)... we'll have to see.
The 3D games in the catalog already use the PDK.
He means the flood of new PDK apps we're likely to see.
Unless they release that flood of PDK apps tomorrow, then this isn't a valid speculation.
Check out the P|C "App Gallery" and see how many require 1.4.5... Very few. Why? Because not that many PDK apps are available.
Yes but Pixi users can't use these apps right now - they will be able to once the update happens.
Palm doesn't have to pay the devs the difference in cost for all of the Pixi users going and getting a ton of games once the update is done and the sale is done.
I don't have a problem with the speculation - heck we are just speculating. I posted this speculation earlier.
Think about all of the Pixi owners out there that want to get some real gaming on -especially for apps like the Sims3 or NFS:Undercover that carry a larger price tag. I believe they are both like 10 a piece - that is 10 bucks per pixi owner that Palm would pay the devs if a pixi owner only downloaded these two games.
It would be a huge savings to the company to wait until the app sale is done to roll out an update that would allow all webos users the ability to play these games.
I know when I downloaded games during the sale I downloaded more than one. And Pixi owners haven't had the ability to download any of these games yet.
@arthurthornton
That may be due to Palm holding off on publishing a big batch of PDK apps until 1.4.5 is available in their largest market, i.e., the US.
newsroom, digloo, done!, super ko boxing 2
3000 apps.
Only 15 could make the "recommend list".
Almost half of those are games.
Nothing for the serious, mature customer base.
You all still wonder why Palm is left in the dust?
I picked up
HAWX
ASPHALT 5
EARTHWORM JIM!! (love this game as a kid and think it's an awesome mobile version)
FAMILY GUY
PHOTO EFFECTS
and
STICKYMAN(this idea is genius for 10second Tom people like me. I have the attention span of a gnat sometimes. Having the ability to post sticky notes to the wallpaper is a godsend for me)
going to make sure I have what I want... AccuCard 2.0 looks real interesting but I don't know if it's worth the price. Alot of bad reviews for an app that looks VERY promising.
I just bought 2 copies of Electronic Art's "BATTLESHIP" for $2.50 each. (do not confuse with "Battleships" by MathSlice)
Very cool.
There are not many games out there you can buy and play others over WiFi.
Well, just played my first multiplayer game with my Kid using our two Pres over WiFi. 1/2 way through it got confused and thought my son hadn't taken his turn yet.
So we were deadlocked with each of our game's waiting for one another to make a move. Disappointing.
Picked up IStayFit. Great app for pure lifting. Love all the neat ways you can track your stats. There are better alternatives if you're the type that likes to run/bike/etc outside though (like Jogstats).
On the fence about whether to buy pack n track, myq (ive got the free version), and NOVA.
Notes, Digloo, Cronk, WiFi Media Sync,
gonna check again tonight to make sure I'm not missing anything else.
I bought Let's Golf, Solitaire Collection and Cloud Hopper.
thanks for the suggestion for istayfit, just got it and it seems like a great program
No problem. Only thing its missing is exportable logs, but hopefully that will come if we keep buggin the developer.
I ended up picking up Jogstats (and pack n track) too. Jogstats seemed like it has EVERYTHING you could need as far as tracking your run goes. Really neat app.
