YouTube Mobile site optimized for webOS 28

by Derek Kessler Thu, 13 Aug 2009 9:08 am EDT

So the webOS YouTube application isn’t bad, but it’s also not all that great. Sure, it lets you search and watch videos (which some say display with better quality than those on the iPhone at that), but that’s about it. You can’t access your subscriptions, rate videos, or leave comments. The folks at YouTube have come to our rescue, however, with a webOS-optimized version of YouTube that lets you rate, comment, and subscribe. Essentially it’s a portal from the full YouTube site to your on-Pre player, but it works well and has more robust search options than the native app. YouTube has also updated the mobile site to work better with iPhone and Android operating system phones.

This has got us thinking though, how often do you use YouTube on your Pre, and do you think better options like subscription access might increase your time wasting use?

I use the webOS YouTube application frequently to search for and watch videos. I was surprised how well it works.

It's about time. They've been pretty late to the game. The app is great and all but I would like ability to comment and add favs(if the mobile site allows the latter)

I use it quite a bit. I'm excited to check it out! What I was doing to get to my subscriptions was to search my username and I could watch my videos, grant it I couldn't do anything else at least I could watch them on my Pr?.

Great news. I wanted to add a video as a favorite recently but couldn't. This should help.

I dig the app otherwise.

I just hope Google will ALSO make GoogleDocs work better (again) on the Pre.

I just tried the "optimized" site. I could search fine on the site and I saw the expanded options but I couldn't figure out how to PLAY the video. Am I missing something obvious?

Once you find the video you want to play on m.youtube.com, you just tap ON the video.

It will open the Youtube application for you to watch the video.

The description says it is youtube.com, not m.youtube.com. So that's where I went and clicked videos - with no success. I'll try m.youtube.com though.

they should also fix m.facebook.com

You probaby put it on usb mode instead of just charge. Try that.
* ooops this was meant for the person under this post.

Hopefully youtube site or app will let users SORT before the century is over

It has got to be able to search better then the native app. I would like to see the native app grow up as well. It will work until flash comes out and we can use real video sites.

make sure novacom is properly install.

The installation software on the pc has some option that says it will attempt to reinstall Novacom. Look around and try it. Also, make sure your phone is in developer mode.

I use the native app all the time but I don't like the lack of folter options when searching

Is the YouTube App (native or optimized web) able to stream the full movies that YouTube is now putting out there?

We need all those things needs to be added to the native app. I gotta say the quality of the vids is nice... wasn't expecting that when i first tried youtube app on my pre.

I use it alot when I have good service. I have noticed that that stream is not consistent though if you have 3 bars or less but I get over it pretty well

I still have to say that I love youtube though. I use it daily

I don't even bother with the mobile version of the YouTube site. My Facebook bookmark also points to the normal site. Only the Google Reader mobile site doesn't leave out ANY of the features found in their normal site.

Big fun, long hours, hard work, great people, learn more about this. Not a bad job description if it works out well.
Thanks
