ZumoDrive updated: add files directly from your Pre 36

by Dieter Bohn Tue, 04 May 2010 1:45 pm EDT

ZumoDrive for webOS offers a nice, clean way to store your files up there on the cloud. We've already reviewed and liked ZumoDrive before, but as TechCrunch has reported it's better now. ZumoDrive has gone ahead and added the ability to upload files directly from your handset. Tapping the "up" arrow in the upper-right corner now brings up the standard webOS file finder, which gives you access to your pictures, movies, music, and files in the root directory of your USB drive.

Of course, ZumoDrive's existing music streaming and photo viewing still works nicely, so for right now the service looks to be the most webOS-friendly cloud storage service out there right now.

I've yet to use this app but it sure looks aweosme! Has anyone been using it that would recommend it?

Love the Pre app AND the desktop app for ZumoDrive so much that I upgraded to 50gb of storage for a year.

One MAJOR feature that the Pre app is missing is a search function within the music browser. Pretty darned annoying to scroll through 500 artists just to find "The Beatles"

I've tried to download it all day today, and the app catalog says that it's not a valid app, and the web distribution says that the app is currently not available. Anyone else having trouble?

I am having a similar problem and what really sucks for me is the fact that I JUST DOCTOR'd MY PRE!!! GRRRR!!!

But other than that ZumoDrive is a excellent piece of work and with the addition of uploading from device it makes it all the better!! Great work!!

EDIT --Yes, I too cannot find it in the AppCat.

I found it as needing an update under My Applications in the AppCat.

UPDATE - I just tried again using the app catalog, and it is available for download. I downloaded successfully, and was able to sync to my account. AWESOME!

I use Zumodrive regularly in my business and for personal uses. It is a fantastic product. The addition of the webOS app was icing on the cake. I very much like having access to my Zumodrive from my Pre.

I first installed the webOS app a couple months ago when it first came out, had a couple issues early on with music streaming, but that has been resolved.

I was just able to use the Update feature to update to the latest version. The issue you are having with the app catalog is not uncommon when an app is newly updated, sometimes it takes a day or to for the app catalog to get it right.

Works for me. I have the latest WebOS and a Verizon phone if that helps.

I also have a VZW phone with 1.4.1.1, still nothing. I'm guessing that shouldn't make a difference when I'm trying to access a website from a PC though. I'll wait a day or two like jdod suggested.

I don't think i've used 500 megs on my phone, I have no need for this, Unless i could use it for say 50gigs, Then it would be useful to me, but then again, my bill is already at 80bucks, i don't need to spend another 10 a month for storage.

I would more need the WIFI connection to my computer files anywhere in my house would be cool as well.

I have been using ZumoDrive since I first saw it in the app catalog and it keeps getting better. 8 gigs (on the Pre) is perfectly enough for me when I have access to my home/work PC with this app.

I is in the app catalog now, I just downloaded it to my Pre

I just loaded and set up ZumoDrive on PC and original PRE.
All works great and the 1GB is good enough for now, I will keep excvhanging music or photos and docs as needed so the 1GB is fine. If I need more the price is compatible with my pocketbook.

A good thing if you need to upload photos, music or video from your Pre/Pixi. It's a little more difficult if you want to upload other kinds of files since everything seems to be dumped into one list.

I hope the next update allows me to set up *any* directories on my Pre to be linked so files are uploaded automagically instead of having to hook up to your computer via USB. Talk about your back-up plan! (http://blog.palm.com/palm/2010/05/when-bad-things-happen-to-good-phones....)

SPRINT PRE 1.4.1.1.....NO ZUMO IN APP CAT

The app catalog may be down... atleast it is for a few users in the forums...

I have the app and an account. I have used it and really like it and intend to buy more space, but I have an issue with "ghost" files. What I mean is that I deleted everything off my account when I was done playing with how it works with just a hand full of files. Now I want to buy space and add LOTS of files, but most of the items I put on Zumo Drive are still showing up on my Pre. They are not on there website, only on the Pre. If I turn off my internet connection they are not there. So somehow they are still on their server. There are others with this problem and as of yet they cannot solve the problem. Anyone with same issue, with a solution?

you have to actually go into the app catalog and search zumo. I couldn't find it either using Preware or by clicking the link. You have to launch the app catalog then search Zumo. Hope that helps

What would be better if Jason's Internalz supported WebDAV then we could use MS SkyDrive's 25 GB of free storage.

I want to use or do something like this on my Pre. However, I also want to use my own storage server. Any solutions out there for that?

I really like this app. I keep the folder on my laptop where I store all of my coursework (I am a graduate student in history) synced. The other night I was out with classmates. I had responded to a panel of papers and one of the panelists asked for a copy of my response to his work. Pulled up ZumoDrive and emailed it to him on the spot. No other way I would have had that file on my Pre.

It solves all of those occasions when you realize the file you need is somewhere you cannot get to it at the moment. Its so useful!

I like the uploading feature, but I hope they make it more like the desktop version in the future. I would prefer it if it synced certain things automatically. For instance, I wish my pictures backed up automatically. It really completes the already great cloud computing experience of webOS.

Thanks, searched at 3:30PMEST and it was there.

Can you upload the entire photos folder with just a few taps?

If you've already uploaded your photos folder and you tell it to upload your entire photos folder again, is it smart enough to only upload the new photos?

Bugs with your pictures :On this link you can follow it, zumo drive knows about this bug.

FAQS on this link Knowledge Base / FAQs - ZumoDrive Support

I checked the FAQ's but it did not answer my questions. I was wondering if an existing user could weigh in.

i always wondered what that symbol on the top of the screen means: you know, the upside down phone with the 9 dots..what does that mean? anyone care to fill me in..? O.O

What is the "standard webOS file finder" you refer to? Is there a way to access it without this program? Thanks

oops double post

I do not want my data stored with out AES encryption. I do not want China intelligence "administrators" stealing my data. I don't want authentication with Chinese (CNNIC) certificates. I do not want a service that claims "security" when in fact they... you read up on em @precentral && forum

One improvement is uploaded songs in an album are now listed in order of track number, rather than alpabetically by song title. Overall, this app is shaping up nicely.

I'll wait for dropbox...looks better feels better...vote for it :)

Using it as any Eye-Fi card for the camera. Photos and video sync back to a folder on my laptop. I'm hoping Dropbox comes along soon but this is great for sending files back and forth to my Pre.

anyone else notice dropbox released its API today?

developer! ready. set. GO!

I like zumodrive. Its easy to config and now I can backup some pics but for music... Nothing beats ampache mobile. I have access to all 200 gig of my mp3's. Now I don't have to pick what music to take with me. I have it all!

I would like to see Zumo load all the pics that are in a folder. Currently you have to select - pics/folder/file then choose to open or save. You can't see the next pic without going back to the list.

The list is something I also don't like, no thumbnails / previews. I'd like to see it load the pics like the facebook app does. It looks just like the preview grid our phone already uses.

An album art preview would be nice in the music folders.

the app works wonderfully and I'm sure it'll only get better.
